What other things were happening in 1947?
...Harriet Gindin founded the Gindin Insurance Agency.
Harriet started out by working for an insurance agent which is where she learned the business. In 1947, she married Russell Gindin. Russell, partnering with his father, was developing an area in Morrisville, PA known as Highland Park. Because Harriet had experience in the insurance business, she made sure the proper insurance was in place from the time the houses were under construction until they were sold.
Once they were sold, she would meet with the new homeowners to discuss their insurance needs and requirements. That was the birth of the Gindin Insurance Agency. Harriet was always available to take care of her customers when they needed her and as a result of her reputation, the business grew. “Dependable Service since 1947” became her slogan and we continue to use it today.

In 1980, Harriet’s son Roger joined the agency. Harriet’s primary focus had always been Personal Lines of insurance. Now with Roger in the business, the agency also concentrated on selling Commercial Lines. They developed a niche working with small businesses and again, were very successful.
Since 1947, the office was in Harriet’s house. The business had grown and it was time to move to larger quarters. In 1982, they moved to the office building at the Oxford Valley Mall known as One Oxford Valley where the office is located today.
With Harriet at the helm, the business continued to grow. In 2009, she decided it was time to retire. She loved the business, loved working with her customers and by virtue of the reputation she developed, was instrumental in the success of the business for 62 years.
In 2010, Dave Berndt joined the firm as Vice President of Operations. Dave had worked with both Harriet and Roger as their Commercial Lines Underwriter when he worked for Donegal Mutual Insurance Company. Most recently, he was Vice President of an insurance agency where he ran the agency’s wholesale insurance operation and also their personal lines division. His background, experience and personal integrity will be a key in the continued success and growth of the business.
Today Roger, Dave and their staff continue to operate the Gindin Insurance Agency using the same principals of dependable and personalized customer service that Harriet used when she first started the business in 1947.
